Life of Pi Book Review: Brooks Rogers

Life of Pi Book Review
Brooks Rogers
Life of Pi is an outstanding book that was wrote by Yann Martel. Martel was born in Spain in 1963. Befor Life of Pi, Yann Martel was not a very successful writer, his second book he wrote was a failure. Not many people bought it and no one really knew about it. Martel finally became recognized on a large scale when Life of Pi was completed.
Life of Pi is a book that just captivated me. It was filled with such adventure and it was very easy to read. I feel as if this book can appeal to anyone who likes a good tale that involves adventure. I will admit though, that the book starts off uninteresting and lethargic. Once the story gets going, you just get drawn into the tale of Pi Patel.

Martel starts the book with a authors note. The Authors note is practically the beginning of the book. He talks about someone who told him the story of Pi, and he says that he Met Pi Patel. Which is not true, Martel is just setting the stage for the real story. Once the story gets going, you just get drawn into the tale of Pi Patel.
Pi Patel is the main character of Life of Pi.  Pi is sixteen years old, and he is heading to the North America on a boat. On the way, the boat hits bad weather, and starts to sink. This is where i think that the book starts to get really good. Pi ends up being on a lifeboat with a hyena, a Zebra, and a orangutan.  The animals get violent pretty fast. The Hyena kills the Zebra, then the orangutan gets fed up and attacks the hyena only to be killed swiftly. Eventually, a tiger named who is named Richard Parker comes out of hiding on the life boat and kills the hyena. So in order for Pi to live, he needs to assert his dominance over the tiger so he does not get killed.
Slowly, Pi and Richard Parker live together without Richard Parker killing Pi. Pi’s life on the small boat at this point is a routine. He sleeps, catches fresh food for Richard Parker and himself, and he is always looking for shore. At one point, Richard Parker and Pi land on a island. the island is filled with meerkats. Pi also realizes that the islands freshwater ponds are filled with dead fish. While they are on the island, a storm hits. When it is all over, everything is fine and the island has weathered the storm well. Pi finds that there are trees on the island with fruit on them, but inside of every fruit is a human tooth. Pi concludes the the island eats people and sets off to sea soon after. When it is time to leave the island, Pi fills the boat with dead fish, and meerkats.
This part of the book greatly interested me. It showed how Pi got new supplies for when he cast back out to sea, and it was just an amazing part of Pi’s adventure. It also shows the imagination of Pi. It shows this through his idea that he thinks that the island is a man eating island.
The end of the book is also interesting, but it can confuse you a little. The twist in the end is something that you would never think of happening. I really liked the ending, it just made the book come to life in my opinion. The book by itself is worth it to read just to find out the ending.  Life of Pi is a book that just has a very well developed plot and is so interesting and captivating. When the book ended, i wished that it would keep going. I just could not get over the fact that it was over. I seriously recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure. You will fall in love with the characters, and you will feel as if you are truly in the story, or watching it happen from afar. Life of Pi was very simple, it was so easy to understand, and that just made it that much more enjoyable to read.
