analytical essay idea
So far in the book the theme that has interested me the most is that of social roles. Throughout the book, after Jane comes to Thornfield, we can see social roles effecting her, especially when she is asked to marry Rochester. I plan to write about how even though Jane is as intellectual as Rochester, she isn't on the same level, socially , as him. Also about how Jane stands up to the social stigmas set forth in the Victorian age.

ReplyDeleteYou could also bring up the idea of how things would've been different if Jane inherited the money from her uncle, and how her being in a social class would create or remove her problems.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Jessie's observations become true! Social class is certainly present in the book. For instance, there is that scene when Blanche and her sisters and her mom are ripping on Governesses, but Jane herself is also a bit of a snob (consider her views of the "peasants' she teaches at the Morton School, or her view of Hannah and some of the other servants in the novel.
