My topic
For the Scarlet Letter essay my topic is love. how there wasnt really love between chillingworth and hester and why it didnt work out because there was no love. the love between hester and dimmesdale and how that could have been taken as lust for a little but then they had a child and it could have turned into real love. and the love between hester and pearl and that there will always be love there because it is a different kind of love.

Wait, so are you talking about the different kinds of love there is in the book. or the different kinds of love between the characters?
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand what your topic is. I think you should just pick one or two topics out of all those and focus on them, so you can really go into depth about what your trying to reveal about the book.
ReplyDeleteComparing the three loves? or saying how they didn't work because they aren't true love?
ReplyDeletereally go into how you can have love for hatred and love for everything you put effort into. how love is a passion. i think this is a great idea. say how dimmesdale loves..but hates guilt how chillingtonn loves but loves revenge more.. and how hester loves each pearl but hates seing sin
ReplyDeleteCarla,
ReplyDeleteSome good suggestions in the comments above. I like Jo's best (love and hate, as the narrator says, being so alike). But you could also consider love in the context of self-reliance. Hester was forced to marry Chillingworth (whom she didn't love--but society, aka her parents, said she should), whereas she chose to love Dimmesdale (what they did had that "consecration" of its own) whom society said that she shouldn't love. This inversion could also make for a good approach to the novel. I'm anxious to see which one you take!
