conformity

I wanted to write about Emerson's idea of conformity. I know that a lot of people were intrigued by this idea but it stuck with me throughout all of the reading we did. Life as a high school student is engulfed in conformity, everyone has this idea that they have to fit in or to be cool to survive their four years here. However this just leads to loosing your true self, the sense of who you are. I could ask anyone who they are and the answer would be altered by the views of todays society, and i admit i fall under the same category. Is it not impossible to not conform to todays life? everything is a trap, school, popularity, wanting the latest technologies, sports. you can so easily get caught up in the crowd. so I want to write about being able to break free of this, being yourself and avoiding these to the best of our abilities. any thoughts?
