My thoughts on Transcendentalism
The transcendentalists talk a lot about imitaion and nonconformity. This makes me think about how in our society today, we spend a large amount of our time trying to imitate and fit in. An example of this is in high schools all across the US. I want to use quotes such as "For noncomformity the world whips you with its displeasure" and "inmitation is suiside" to adress how in today's society and in high schools poeple do imitate and are conformists. Things like clicks and being "popular" have been stressed in most schools to the point that people spend the majoity of their time trying to fit in and loose the unique aspects of their character. This is so different for the idea's of Thoreau and Emerson and how they believe that "imitation is suiside" and such.

Cirkine this is an awesome topic! I think you should add specific examples of how teens in high school struggle to conform and imitate. Also do just teens struggle to conform and imitate, or do adults do as well? This essay is going to be really in tune with life today!
ReplyDeleteI really like this idea Cirkine! Maybe use some examples from our high school, and anytthing else I would say, cory already said.
ReplyDeleteCirkine,
ReplyDeleteI agree with those above who feel you have an excellent topic and a great approach to this assignment. Just be sure to ground your discussion in concrete examples drawn from your own experience here at THS. I look forward to your first draft!
