essay topic
For my essay i was thinking about writing about how Emerson got inspired by nature, and how i am inspired by cheerleading. the motivation, inpiration, and the love of the sport drives me. Emerson wanted to understand nature and take as much part in it as he could. i understand cheerleading but there is still much more i can take in and learn from others and myself. this sport helps me realize who i am and how i deal with situations.

ReplyDeleteI think cheerleading is a great topic--but you need to think about how cheerleading contradicts a lot of what Emerson seems to be arguing..which is fine (take issue with his celebration of the individual by emphasizing the value in working with as a part of a larger team, talk about how cheerleading is a 'celebration' in much the way that Whitman 'celebrates' things Etc. & Etc.). You need to make a list of the 'values' that cheerleading supports, then perhaps contrast them with those 'values' we've identified as 'transcendentalist'. I think this can be a really fun (and informative) essay--one that can be largely about cheerleading (you can leave the Transcendentalists behind after using them to set up your topic). I look forward to reading your first draft!
maybe you should talk about how nature drives emerson to be the purest and best that he thinks he can be. he goes to his limits. just like how in cheerleading you are always striving to get the next step up in a tumbling pass, knowing what you have already learned has made you want to be better, be your best.
