Nature vs. Science
"All science has one aim, namely, to find a theory of nature. We have theories of races and functions, but scarcely yet a remote approach to an idea of creation." This quote stands out to me because Emerson is stating that we as humans ask too much of nature and therefore may not respect it. Personally I look at a tree and think, "Wow, look at those green leaves! so beautiful." But if I look at a tree through a scientist's eyes, I would think, "okay if it rains an "x" amount of precipitation, then the photosynthesis will start to play a roll, etc." He may not have meant this when he wrote it, but to me this quote makes me wonder why does it matter? do we have to know specific scientist facts about EVERYTHING, or can we just leave it how it is, and just live life?
